Blog #5: Creative Designer

I would like to be considered for the role of creative designer because I’m a creative individual with a passion for art. I have a strong background in art because I used to be a Graphic Design major. The various art classes that I have taken include: 2D Design, 3D Design, Drawing, Printmaking, and Photography. I understand the elements of design and how to use them to convey the intended messages. I have experience with every aspect of art including poster and brochure design. Also, I have the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and clients about creative ideas and various design options. My experience, creativity, and communication skills make me an ideal candidate for this position.

Blog Post #5: Statement of Interest

My name is Kate and I am interested in taking on the role of copywriter in our upcoming service learning project.

I am the perfect fit for the copywriter position because written communication is one of my strongest skills. I am nearing completion of a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Rhetoric & Advanced Composition. My major is all about writing and I have spent my college career polishing my craft through courses like Editing and Business Writing. In my Business Writing course, I practiced writing commonly used business documents such as memos and emails in various professional scenarios. I also contributed to a grant proposal for CrossWalk USA in partnership with a classmate who is involved with the organization. In my Editing class, I contributed to a large-scale service learning project (60+ pages) for The Virtual HR Director, LLC. I practiced editing documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, factual accuracy, political correctness, and layout. I feel my experience in editing as well as writing sets me apart as a candidate. I am also proficient in Microsoft Word and blogging platforms and am organized, reliable, and punctual.

I am easily accessible most of the time through phone, text, e-mail, or skype. I receive e-mail updates through my phone and can always give a fast response. I am not currently in the workforce and do not care for any other individuals so you can get in touch with me almost any time of day. I do commute to campus but all my friends live in Atlanta therefore I am near campus quite often. Otherwise, I have a personal car that makes travelling to meet easy.

I hope you will consider me for the position of copywriter.

Statement of Interest

I am currently working on my Economics major and a minor in English. I would love the position of the copywriter for my assigned group. Being an event coordinator in the African Students Association where I constantly provide creative ideas or concepts or take an idea and give it substance, direction and content I can also bring that into this project. However, for this project I am also open to the position of creative designer.

I am easily accessible by email and text messages and I check and respond to both regularly. I commute to campus daily and would be available to meet whenever necessary. I am very reliable, always right on task, and will do whatever is necessary to make sure the project is excellent.

Blog Post #5- Researcher

I am interested in the role of researcher as I have experience in both gathering data and information and presenting it. I have successfully* completed research as an intern at State Farm and I have presented on what I learned to an audience of my peers.  I have also been a university research assistant at GSU since my freshman year. As a University Assistant, I work in teams of two and six handling both quantitative and qualitative data, and we are on track to present our research at GSURC (Georgia State Undergraduate Research Conference) in the spring.

In regards to availability, I check my email and phone messages often and can easily commute to campus for a scheduled meeting. I have never been late to our class (punctuality), I am a second year Junior (focused), and I am a committed to our successful completion of this project that will result no only in a A but in deliverables that are deemed exemplary by the not-for-profits we will work with.

*I received an A on my senior project, positive reviews from my mentor, and was offered a job by the agent at State Farm (in Virginia) where I worked until I moved to Georgia to attend GSU.

Statement of Interest

For this semester’s service learning project, I would like to be considered for the position of researcher.

I am no stranger to research.  Last summer, I began a massive undertaking: writing a comprehensive encyclopedia of North American folklore, mythology, and cryptology.  This project, which I am still currently working on, has involved countless hours in various university libraries, researching a wide variety of topics, and learning how to conduct meaningful research online.  While all the work I have done has been conducted in a recreational capacity, I have no doubt that the skills I have developed would transition well to professional research.

I thoroughly enjoy conducting research and in the time since I begun my encyclopedia, I have learned valuable techniques to organization.  I can say with confidence that if I were the team researcher, I would be able to effective find relevant information and organize it in a system that was accessible to my other group members.

Blog #5: Statement of Interest

For the project we are undertaking in applying our technical knowledge acquired through our coursework in technical communication I am interested in assuming the role of a researcher. Being a very well read and communicatively proficient individual, I have the ability to communicate complex ideology and information in a straight-forward approach easily understandable by my desired audience. I can recollect various information at a moments notice making me the ideal candidate for this position. My qualifications for this position include over three years of experience in philosophical text analyzation and regurgitation through the written form of communication modality. I currently have an Associate’s of Arts degree in philosophy from Georgia Perimeter College which shows my dedication to my degree as well as my previous accomplishments in the college atmosphere.

Time for me is a key factor in my decision to apply for the role of a researcher instead of the role as a project manager. I do have 6 months of management experience at a local health club in Atlanta named Athletic Club Northeast as well as the necessary faculties to be able to assume the role of Project manager, but I do not have the necessary amount of time available for this position. The reasons I do not have the ability to assume the role of project manager are the fact that not only am I full time student working at the senior level of my degree in philosophy which includes rigorous coursework as compared to the previous class levels, but also when I am not spending my time studying or completing assignments for college I am working as a server. It would have been an honor to guide a group of people in this journey we will depart on in technical communication, but I simply do not have the time or resources to assume such a role. Therefore, I will repeat my desire for the role of a researcher or at very least a copywriter. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tyler Chambers

[EDIT: In the event that no other individuals interested in assuming the role of a project manager come forward, I would be open to the idea of assuming the role of a Project Manager. There has been a history of Project Management in my family and I have the previous experience working in a management positions. Similarly, Socrates believed that philosophers should always assume leadership roles because of their acquired wisdom and judgement and I am inclined to agree with him in this particular situation.]

Blog #5: Statement of Interest for Copywriter

My first preference for a team role is the copywriter position because I am an English major focusing on rhetoric and composition. The classes in which I am enrolled will add value to my assignments, my team, and most importantly, our clients.

Every week, I must submit 500-words to a discussion board in another English class in addition to the 500-words that we must submit in technical communications; that is a minimum of 1,000 words per week for only two of my five classes. Therefore, I have acquired proficiency in writing by producing a great deal of quality work in a timely manner. I am also currently enrolled in practical grammar, and I have been chosen several times to help my peers in class and have volunteered to tutor outside of class. Another course in which I am enrolled that is beneficial to the copywriter position is business writing. Most people associate business with power-hungry corporations, but we need to remind ourselves that programs, such as Whitefoord, Our House, and Moving in the Spirit, are businesses as well. Therefore, we need to maintain communication in cordial manners appropriate for business. These experiences have made me a well-rounded candidate for the copywriter position.

Moreover, I have kept several samples of my work that I wrote at my previous college, including one research paper that qualified me for the Southern Regional Honors Council Conference as well as the Florida Collegiate Honors Council Conference; both at which I gave presentations of my research paper. You can also view samples of my writing in my blog posts: The Lack of Ethics in Resumes and Why It’s OK and When Does It Pay To Be Creative.  Also, I am familiar with the structure and content of annual reports from my role as an honors ambassador at my previous college. I still have access to the annual report as a reference for future intensive and extensive writing assignments.

I have kept two letters of recommendation: one is from my former honors director, and the other is from my former English and linguistics professor. Both have Ph.D.’s in English, and both have said in their letters that I am detail-oriented and have strong written and verbal communication skills. I will be very happy to provide those letters by request.

This semester, technical communications has been my top priority primarily because of the considerable amounts of time-sensitive work. This is advantageous because I will have my part of our service learning project ready every time assignments are due within group deadlines and class deadlines. Also, Not only am I punctual when submitting my work, but also when I am scheduled to be somewhere (i.e. I have never been late to class).

You may call for any questions, but text messages and emails are the quickest and most effective ways to reach me. I am willing to meet on campus outside of classroom hours, online via Skype, and in Buckhead or anywhere within 15 minutes of Buckhead.

I am confident that, with my skills, I will produce written content and deliverables that are most accurate and coherent to my knowledge in order to help my team succeed in supporting our clients and their goals.

Project and Role Selection: Serving as a Copywriter

I would like to be considered for the position of Copywriter for this semester’s Service Learning Project. I am currently a Public Policy major earning a certification in Non-profit Management through the Andrew Young School. I possess over two years of experience working with non-profit organizations and feel that I would be most effective in a group setting as a copywriter. If for some reason I am unable to serve in this position I would like to serve as the group researcher.

Currently I am interning with the Housing Authority of DeKalb County  and a large part of my time is spent working with the Communications Specialist. I create a great deal of informational pieces (i.e. power points, brochures) for our clients. In addition to that I spent a great deal of my time completing program evaluations which include creating logic models and measurement matrices. I would like to work with the organization “Moving In The Spirit” either project one or two.

For our class’ Service Learning Project I would like to be consider for the position of Copy Editor. I have learned about the styles and techniques of copy editing through the Editing course taught here at Georgia State. I am currently doing an internship as a Copy Editor and this is the team member role that I feel most experienced and confident in. I work great in group settings because although I am an excellent leader, I am just as great at being a team player. If selected for the copy editing position I will make sure to thoroughly inspect documents, tables, and charts as well as keep my team and our client adequately and informed in any information and suggestions that i may have. I am willing to assist my team in all roles that need help or creative conversation in order to make sure that we give these great organizations the best service possible so that they can continue to provide excellent care and service to our Atlanta communities. I am fully invested in my community of Atlanta because I myself am a native and also a product of many efforts of programs like these designed to help members of low socioeconomic statuses. I bring an immense passion for community through experience and a completed minor in Sociology. I also bring a keen eye for production, review, and analysis from my pursuance of a B.A in English.  As stated before I am very interested in the Copy Editor position, however I am also open to other positions where I can learn new skills and gain new experience.

Statement of Personal Interest

If at all possible for whatever group I am assigned I would like to be given the role of copyrighter. My qualifications circle around the fact that 1. I am an English major and I enjoy editing and pulling things together and 2. I have some small experience with drafting letters and advertisements as part of class assignments and volunteer work. My second choice would be the post of Researcher because I tend to enjoy the more tedious aspects of it and I have been in similar roles before with other classes and projects.
