PROGRAM DETAILS:

  • SUMMER
    • Full-time Research Assistantship
      • May 30 through August 4, 2017
      • $10 per hour, between 30 – 40 hours per week
      • 10 weeks in the summer with chance to renew for fall
    • BRAIN Summer Research Program Orientation Week
      • May 30 – June 2, 2017; 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Petit Science Center
      • Led by Kyle Frantz, Ph.D. (Professor, Neuroscience) & Chris Goode, Ph.D. (Associate Dean for Undergraduate Learning, College of Arts and Sciences, Psychology)
      • Philosophy of Science, Experimental Design, Research Ethics, Lab Safety, Mentoring Up, and Scientific Communication
    • Weekly Professional Development Workshops
      • Wednesdays from June 7 through July 26, 2017; 12:30 – 3:30 pm, Petit Science Center
      • Led by Kyle Frantz, Ph.D. & Elizabeth Weaver, M.S. (Education Specialist, Neuroscience)
      • Professional Conduct, CV/Résumé Preparation, Science Identity, and Career Awareness
    • Closing Research Symposium
      • Tentative: Wednesday, August 2, 2017
      • Judged Poster Presentations on summer research accomplishments
      • In collaboration with the Brains & Behavior Summer Undergraduate Fellows Program
  • ACADEMIC YEAR (Renewal application required at end of summer 2017)
    • Research Assistantship
      • August 21, 2017 through May 4, 2018
      • $10 per hour, maximum 225 work hours per semester (average 15 hours per week)
      • Minimum work hours per semester recommended: 75 (average 5 hours per week)
    • Monthly Professional Development Workshops
      • Led by faculty and senior trainees
      • Research Ethics, Animal Use in Research, Diversity in the Workforce, Professional Conference Attendance and Conduct, Peer Review, Preparation for Graduate School, Mock GRE Testing, Interviewing Strategies, and Presentation Skills
    • Closing Research Symposium
      • End of spring semester (April)
      • Judged Oral Presentations with PowerPoint slides on research design and/or outcomes
