Stephanie Cronen, Ph.D., is a principal research scientist in AIR’s Adult Learning and Workforce Solutions practice areas. Dr. Cronen’s work during the past 18 years has focused largely on managing and conducting the technical work of large-scale research studies, including survey research, experimental studies, and mixed-methods studies in adult education, professional development, and college and career readiness. Currently, she serves as the principal investigator for an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Researcher-Practitioner Partnership grant to develop and pilot a data-driven decision making model for adult learning case managers. She also leads the technical support project for the new Adult Training and Education Survey (ATES), a nationally-representative survey funded by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), and serves as Principal Research Scientist on the National Reporting System for Adult Education (NRS), in support of the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE). Dr. Cronen also directed the subcontract work for a recent study on Promising Practices for Increasing Diversity Among First Responders through the Department of Labor’s Chief Evaluation Office. She recently completed a large-scale mixed-methods evaluation of two college readiness grant programs funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In addition to these projects, Dr. Cronen is also the project director for the IES subgrant to AIR through Georgia State University’s Center for the Study of Adult Literacy, for which she manages dissemination activities related to the Center’s research findings. Previous to these projects, Dr. Cronen served as the deputy director on two large-scale (IES) impact studies in the areas of adult education and professional development.
