WPA-Graduate Organization Announcements
See the message below about a few opportunities from WPA-GO, the WPA Graduate Organization. You can read more about them online and become a member. This is a fairly new organization within WPA, and it’s a great opportunity for graduate students to get involved and even run for leadership/committee positions. ~Ashley Holmes
WPA-GO is very excited to announce two calls related to the 2014 CWPA Conference:
Call for Applications: 2014 CWPA Graduate Student Travel Grants
The WPA Graduate Organization (WPA-GO) & the Council of Writing Program Administrators (CWPA) are pleased to offer at least six travel grants of $100 each to current graduate students presenting at the 2014 Council of Writing Program Administrators Conference, to be held July 17-20 in Normal, IL, including at least one travel grant for a graduate student presenting in RWG @ CWPA 2014.
Call for Presenters and Discussion Leaders: Research/Writing Group @ CWPA 2014
The WPA Graduate Organization (WPA-GO) invites presenters and discussion leaders to participate in our first Research/Writing Group (RWG) sessions at the 2014 CWPA Conference in Normal, IL. RWG @ CWPA is free and open to all CWPA Conference registrants.
RWG @ CWPA provides an opportunity for writing program researchers (graduate students, faculty, administrators, independent scholars, etc.) to discuss current works-in-progress at various stages of completion (from brainstorming to revision) and form lasting research/writing groups with fellow researchers from across the country.

C’s Proposal Workshop Follow-Up
Dear Rhet/ Comp Friends,
On Tuesday last week we had a great discussion about C’s proposals for the 2015 conference in Tampa, Fl. It was a good time hearing everyone’s ideas and getting a chance to try and articulate our own. We were especially grateful to hear advice from our experienced faculty members: Dr. Beth Burmester, Dr. Mary Hocks, Dr. Ashley Holmes, and Dr. George Pullman.
We discussed a few resources that we would like to share here:
(1) We have started a Google calendar of conference proposal due dates. Please look out for an invitation to see the calendar (or check for it on the Rhet/Comp site soon). We need help adding other important conferences to it, so please feel free to edit it if you know of some.
(2) Joyce Carter has posted the following videos on youtube discussing important updates for CCCC’s submissions for the 2015 conference:

(3) Check the “Conferences” area on the Resources page of the website for handouts by Dr. Burmester for tips on writing conference proposals/papers and for a list of popular conferences in Rhetoric and Composition.
Also, be on the look out for another blog announcement about completing an online survey. We would like to gather your input on possible events for next year and how we might proceed from here.
Good luck with finals and the finish of another great semester!

Reminder: Conference Proposal Workshop
Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 15, at 2 pm in the Troy Moore Library, we are holding a workshop to discuss rhet/comp conferences generally and 4Cs proposals specifically. Several rhet/comp faculty members have offered to join us and provide feedback on proposals, so please come with ideas, early drafts, and works in progress!
We look forward to seeing you there!

Rhet/Comp’s First Annual Post C’s Conference Proposal Workshop
As we gear up for Indianapolis this year, we know there is an inevitable C’s proposal deadline (May 5th!) awaiting our return (see the recently released CFP for CCCCs 2015 in Tampa). To capitalize on the energy new scholarship gives us, we would like to hold an event that addresses notable rhet/comp conferences generally and allows for workshopping individual proposals specifically, whether those proposals are for C’s or another potential conference. Please see details below:
When: Tuesday, April 15th from 2-3
Where: Troy Moore Library
Who: Rhet/Comp MA and Phd Students and Faculty
Agenda:
- Discuss relevant conferences (20 minutes)
- Workshop proposals with faculty in interest-related groups (30 minutes)
- Organize panels based on common research (10 minutes)
Please feel encouraged to come with conference proposals in any stage of the drafting process. This is an excellent opportunity to receive research-specific feedback, as well as learn what your professors and peers are currently working on. We look forward to seeing you there!
Posted on behalf of Cristine Busser and Kateland Wolfe.
2 CCCCs Opportunities
If you haven’t yet heard, the Bedford / St. Martin’s Party (see flyer) will be at the Indiana State Museum on Thursday the 20th from 6 – 8 PM.
I also wanted you to know about a great opportunity to write up a review of a CCCC panel session that will be published in the online journal Kairos. See the message below for more details. A few graduate students from our program at GSU wrote up reviews last year, and I think it’s a great opportunity! Feel free to share this with friends and colleagues who will be attending CCCCs. If you are interested, you should respond ASAP.
Comps & Cocktails Event A Success: Help Us Plan Conference Abstract Workshop
Last Sunday afternoon many of us met at Twain’s in Decatur to meet new faces and catch up with old ones, and, of course, to discuss comprehensive exams. It was a very successful event thanks to everyone who brought their experience and those who brought their questions. We also certainly appreciated the support and expertise of Dr. Ashley Holmes, Dr. Beth Burmester, and Dr. Michael Harker.
Next, for early April we are planning an event to workshop abstracts and discuss conferences and deadlines. Keep an eye out for more information regarding that event. In the meantime, we would appreciate you taking a moment to fill out this survey noting your availability and preferences of locations for gatherings. We are committed to making events as convenient as possible for everybody.

GSU Rhet/Comp + CCCC Indianapolis
We have a great contingent of faculty and graduate students presenting at CCCCs in Indianapolis this year. I searched the program to come up with the list below, but let me know if I’ve missed anyone and I’ll add them to the list. Also, you can find the searchable program and mobile app on the CCCC website. Hope to see you in Indianapolis!
