Funding Opportunities

Master’s students in the rhetoric and composition program are not guaranteed funding packages; however, funding opportunities are available through Grad Assistantship postionships in the English department and throughout the University.

English Department GA Positions

Lower Division Studies (LDS) Graduate Teaching Assistantship

Current graduate students may apply to teach freshman composition classes. Applications are due February 15 of each year and must include a completed application, updated CV, a cover letter addressing your teaching experience, and two letters of recommendations. Material must be submitted to Dr. Angela M. Christie, Associate Director of Lower Division Studies. LDS hires up to two times per year for the fall and spring semester. Students hired for the position must have completed at least 18 post-grad credit hours and must take ENGL 8195. Composition Pedagogy. The GTA application form can be found on the LDS website.

The Writing Studio Graduate Lab Assistantship

The Writing Studio at GSU provides free writing tutorials for various writing projects. Our services are available to all faculty, staff, and students. The Studio typically hires new tutors every summer for the following calendar year. Applications due dates vary and must include a completed application, letter of interest, CV, and letter of recommendation. Tutors working in the studio with an assistantship  work approximately 10 hours a week conducting one-to-one tutoring in the Studio; tutors are also required to participate in tutor education workshops, professionalization projects, and Studio events throughout the semester. University-Wide GA Positions

Georgia State offers Graduate Assistantship positions in a number of university-wide departments including the Recreational Services Department, the Scholarship Resource Center, and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
