The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in rhetoric and composition to begin Fall 2015. The teaching load is 2-2, with assignments in upper-division and graduate rhetoric and/or composition courses as well as teaching in the first-year composition component of Auburn’s core curriculum.  Individuals joining our faculty will be working with us to focus and invigorate our first-year writing program and enrich our graduate concentration in rhetoric and composition as well as our undergraduate majors.

Required qualifications include a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or a closely allied field by the August 16, 2015, starting date; a strong research and teaching specialization and an academic background in rhetoric and composition studies; administrative interests in first-year composition and writing program administration; evidence of successful teaching experience at the college/university level; evidence of potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in rhetoric and composition; significant potential for successful research, publication, and other scholarly/professional activities; interest in teaching first-year composition; and strong potential as a colleague taking part in the life and work of a unified department of English Studies (including majors in creative writing, literature, and professional writing; graduate concentrations in creative writing, literature, and rhetoric and composition, and a graduate program in technical and professional communication).  The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.

Desired qualifications include a record of publication in the field; administrative experience in first-year composition and writing program administration. Research focus and methodology is open, but we seek candidates with demonstrated research strengths in writing program administration; contemporary composition pedagogy; e-learning (e-portfolios, mobile learning platforms, distance); multimodal literacies; reading/writing connections; historical, regional, and/or feminist rhetorics. Demonstrated strengths in interdisciplinary work and/or civic engagement; interest and/or experience in collaborative work across administrative units (e.g., Writing Center, WAC/WID initiative, Honors College). Demonstrated commitments to collaborative teaching, scholarship, and service.
