Since its release in 1974, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) has inspired franchises and enraptured players over multiple versions. Contemporary D&D pulls from decades of source material, including the video games it also influenced. Its earlier versions, however, derived much of its design from war games and classic fantasy like Tolkien. To better understand how Dungeons and Dragons developed and how it has influenced and been influenced by culture, it’s best to play many versions. So let’s go back in time to experience Winter Con 1976, one of the first tournament style Dungeons and Dragons games in history.
