Study goal: Examine if the frequent use of a computer software grammar instruction program would influence comprehension of grammar in DHH students who use ASL

Sample: Twenty-six students aged 5 to 12 with moderate to profound hearing loss

School: Urban day school for DHH students in United States

Intervention: Computer software grammar instruction program administered over 9 weeks (Five 10-15 minutes sessions per week).

Results: After completing the program,

  • The reading level of the students prior to the intervention predicted how well students used the software grammar instruction program
  • Students’ grammar (syntax) improved
  • Students’ understanding of meanings (semantics) remained the same
