Deforestation has been around for thousands of years since humans first discovered fire. However, this issue did not become a concern until the 1950’s. Then when the invention of saws in the industrial revolution kicked in about 16,556,060 acres have been cleared between the 17th century through the 20th century.
Water and land pollution were also created by the industrial revolution in the mid-19th century. However, it wasn’t until Henry Ford’s invention of the first motorized vehicle in the 20th century that really jump-started the increase in green house gasses. Legislative movements like the Clean Air Act (1970) and the Clean Water Act (1972) have really helped reduce the pollution and emissions of our air and waters.
Lastly, fossil fuels have been used since the start of the century however it wasn’t until our star culprit, The Industrial Revolution, that these key producers of green house gasses were first used.
