Shirley Ortega has accepted an offer to join Georgia State University’s Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program! We are so proud of Shirley and we look forward to seeing her shine at this next stage in her career.

All of our students received many compliments for their advanced research projects and we are so happy to see them thrive. Stephanie Steinberg recently shared her research with the GSU Clinical Psychology Program during her impressive keynote talk at our annual Research Day. Way to go Stephanie!

Congratulations to Olivia Haller on her new publication in the Journal of Psychiatric Research entitled “White matter predictors of PTSD: Testing different machine learning models in a sample of Black American women.” This study tested the relationship between white matter microstructural integrity and PTSD diagnosis. Findings revealed improved classification when estimates of exposure to structural and interpersonal racism were added to models, highlighting how the relationship between neuroanatomical indices and PTSD may be nuanced across race and gender spectrums. Congratulations to Stephanie Steinberg on her new publication in Neuropsychology Review entitled “Within‑Individual BOLD Signal Variability and its Implications for Task‑Based Cognition: A Systematic Review” This publication represents a culmination of Stephanie’s research at GSU. Our lab is sad to share that Dr. Eileen Fennel passed away last week. Dr. King is grateful to have worked closely with Dr. Fennell who was an incredible leader, clinician, mentor, and advocate for students. 

While at the APA convention this month, it was exciting to see folks checking out the new books showcase, which includes the new APA Handbook of Neuropsychology. A hearty congratulations to Tricia and her co-editors for their impressive work on this text!

Congratulations to Eric Semmel on his new publication in Neuroimage: Reports entitled “Graph analysis of resting state functional brain networks and associations with cognitive outcomes in survivors of pediatric brain tumor.” This is an exciting send-off for Eric as he begins his postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. We have many students to celebrate this graduation season! Rella Kautiainen and Eric Semmel had their Ph.D. hooding ceremony this week. Additionally, Naveen Thourani and Cypress Kuhnel both graduated with distinction for their outstanding research they have been working on in the lab.

Congratulations to Olivia Haller on her new publication in The Clinical Neuropsychologist entitled “Concordance of informant and self-reported ratings on the Frontal Systems Behavior Scale in adult survivors of pediatric brain tumor”. This study examined informant and self-report report ratings of executive function in pediatric brain tumor survivors. Check it out here!
