Jeff Hodges: Currently he is an administrative specialist at the Georgia Department of Education. Hodges says that schools interfering with bullying outside of school leads to first amendment issues. while other states have passed cyberbullying laws have had no problem going against the first amendment (Nezirovic,2014).
Representative Keisha Waites: She is a democrat, was bullied as a child and relates with children who have been bullied. She is a fierce advocate for children who have been bullied and in her career has proposed several bills that speak to bullying and reporting annual reports of bullying. She is also working on a bill herself to expand current laws to cover abuse that’s primarily emotional, but not necessarily physical.(Nezirovic,2014). Currently, the most severe punishment for bullies is transfer to an alternative school. That penalty is mandatory for students who commit three offenses in a single school year.(Nezirovic,2014).
Representative Pam Dickerson: Also a supporter of equal rights for all and is working on another cyberbullying bill that would address free speech issues. In fact Rep. Dickerson is working with Georgia Bureau of Investigation and prosecutors to create a bill that doesn’t infringe on a person’s first amendment rights(Nezirovic,2014).
