Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA was founded in 1867. Walking on the campus gives the feeling of history and tradition. It is perceived as a very respectable college that consists of young men working towards a degree and a better life. The way Morehouse College is built and organized creates a perfect place for students to focus on studying but also be able to interact with one another. That is why I believe that it creates a good balance of social and educational resources for the students on campus.
The campus has a very traditional look with the brick buildings and wood based furniture. I feel enlightened, respected, and calm walking through the campus. Every building, statue, and sign is a representation of the school’s history which made me feel more knowledgeable about the campus. The young men would say hello, converse with my friend Averi and I, and open doors for others. Morehouse has certain standards for respect and the appearance so the education for how to present ones self helps them in social situations.
What I noticed the most about Morehouse is that all the guys I saw interacted with each other and spoke with manners. I believe that it comes from the expectation that the school has for its students and the different lessons they might have learned while attending Morehouse. Along with the social skills I saw, the movement of students to classes or other buildings were influenced by the pathways and stairs. There is a large walkway that goes through the campus and around the halls. Many people, myself included, stayed on the pathway and avoided the open space with grass which was right beside the walkway. The pathway pushes people to interact with one another while having enough space for light traffic flow of students.
