This image shows Butter chicken curry along with Naan Bread. Butter chicken is a traditional Indian Chicken Curry cooked in creamy rich sauce made with cashews, almonds, tomatoes and butter. Naan Bread is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread found in the cuisines mainly in India. Food is important to our culture because that is a time when family and friends can come together and share some quality time together. A meal is taken very seriously and usually all of the family members are required to eat together. This makes sure that there is time set aside each day for the family to talk to one another. Eating this food shows cultural identity because it is something that everyone shares. Indian people that live in America show the cultural reaffirmation effect because they want to show their traditional values more by eating their home countries food which in this case would be butter chicken and naan.

This meal looks absolutely delicious. I’m actually a hug fan of Indian food. Growing up I’ve always had Indian friends and have been attracted to that culture because it was similar to mine. In Haitian culture meals are seen as a way to keep the family together and a key factor in hospitality. Every time someone comes to visit your home they cannot leave hungry. My family and I always eat dinner together every night. This was an opportunity to talk and laugh. I enjoyed these times because it allowed us to come together after a long day and confide in each other. Eating with my family represents an important aspect of our relationship and forces us to make an effort to really talk to each other every day.
I love the emphasis that is put on family time and the use of something that everyone loves-food- as being the focal point. It shows a very collectivistic mentality, instead of the more individualist one that is seen in America. I believe everyone should strive for this daily closeness and by using something as simple as just having one meal together as a family would definitely strengthen the bond between members. In my family we have a very American mentality, but recently we have begun to make an effort similar to this one, in which every Sunday night we have a game night and family dinner together with my nuclear family. This has already contributed to a stronger feeling of connectedness, because through this one meal together we begin to share our weekly experiences with one another.
Yum, this meal looks so good! You were truly able to describe and lay-out a great representation for your culture. I can see that aspect of collectivism because it is a culture-based meal and honestly I would love to eat some right now! Culture in mea12829473ls with your family surrounding you…. there’s nothing like it! My family is German so I can relate to this a lot. Every Sunday, no matter what, everyone meets for lunch and we have a German meal. This is great, Sri!
This looks absolutely amazing. I’ve had Indian cuisine before and just watching how it is prepared and served, your blog clarifies why it is such a fundamental part of Indian culture. Thank you for stating that by eating together, this gives the family time to connect with one another – this is extremely important within a family and something that should not be lost through newer and younger generations.
