CTVLI Social Media

Project of Keona Blunt, Debbie Maguire and Pamela Polanco

Proposal

Our goal is to create a viable social media strategy to continue to share the legacy of Dr. C.T Vivian with a new generation. The theme of our project is accessibility, tech and history. We plan to use social media to share information and encourage discussion among users about Dr. C.T Vivian and the C.T. Vivian Leadership Institute.

For this project, we will focus on four platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and a blog. Each of these categories focuses on a different segment of the population and serves a distinct purpose. The following paragraphs will discuss these platforms and our strategies.

Twitter is a great platform to use for short status updates. We would use Twitter for events and day of announcements. It is also easy for a message to spread on Twitter by use of retweets or replies. A goal is to share pictures, videos, and links on Twitter.

The next platform is Facebook. The main purpose of Facebook is to have a platform for longer, in-depth posts. It will be easier to facilitate discussion because of features like comments and shares. Videos, images, and articles can be shared on Facebook as well. We also want to interact with other pages and advertise events going on in the local community.

Instagram, is a visual platform that will attract younger users. We can link our Facebook and Instagram to have a stronger online presence. Videos and pictures are an excellent way to disseminate information, as well as gain more followers. The key to using Instagram is consistency with posts. One way we plan to achieve this is by using custom hashtags. Examples, #FridayFacts or #TBTWCT. Hashtags will allow us to reach more people and have consistent themes.

Finally, we would like to create a blog. One disadvantage of social media is the difficulty of looking at older information. To allow users to view older information, we would like to have a website that is simple to navigate. A blog would allow us to share information and store older posts from other platforms. We would share more informative information and have a timeline for users. A search bar would allow them to search for certain subjects or specific dates. The blog will serve as a basis for a mini archive or website.

The goal for all our platforms is to increase awareness about Dr. C.T Vivian, his legacy, and his current work. Along with this larger goal, we want to share more information on Civil and Human Rights. Another focus is to create an online community that will consist of members of the local community in Atlanta and younger people.
