The Good, No Bad, the Sunrise :)

“‘Sunrise Sunset’ is about trying to get to a place where life is simple and not letting the stress and happenings in the world get in the way of your happiness.” This quote by Benny Cassette accurate describes my intention of being up at 5:30 to take in the views and ponder my thoughts.

This study abroad to the Dominican Republic has been an absolute delight! It would be easy to talk about the humidity, the lack of air conditioning, the abundance of trash, and wealth inequality. Instead, I’m happy to say I’ve been blessed to be around people who will take in everything and find a positive. From speaking to doctors, lawyers, nonprofit owners, medical students, and locals, it’s come clear to me that there are multiple sides to every story on history, resources, and politics.

Just like Pounce I too have enjoyed the sweets of the Dominican Republic and some service learning! Look at that cheesecake and fresh strawberry sauce! On the photo on the right, thanks to the excellent students, faculty, and members from Dona Chuca were able to get the room ready for the kids!

When visiting a new place, you have to check out some of the cool spots! As an avid adventurer, I was glad to have been blessed with some classmates willing to explore after our program hours. One of the most memorable moments was when we went to “Rollers,” the Cascade of Santo Domingo. We spent time dancing, laughing and of course occasionally falling.

There are 7.5 billion people out in the world who have all experienced this day, this week and this year differently. Take some time out to talk to new people, visit new places, and try unknown foods (no raw foods though). This experience has been an unforgettable one for me, and I can’t wait to learn more about how other people have enjoyed theirs!
