Meet the Team – Kara Hill

Kara Hill is one of the Assistant Project Directors at Best Practices and has been part of the team for almost three years.  You are most likely to meet her at Returning Lead Teacher Training, where she spends two days sharing ideas and strategies for incorporating mathematical thinking into the PreK day.

0130526_213507-2There are several things that she enjoys about working at Best Practices, including the ability to work with fellow educators around the state on a weekly basis, sharing and learning at the same time. BP also provides her the opportunity to be creative and inventive, with the chance to step out of the early childhood classroom yet still teach.

Kara completed all of her degrees at Georgia State University and had long hoped she would have the opportunity to work there some day. She received her Bachelors, Masters, and Specialist degrees from the Early Childhood Education program in the GSU College of Education, specializing in mathematics education and teacher support.  She taught kindergarten in public school for five years and served as a new teacher mentor and grade level chair.  Before completing her Bachelors degree, she worked as a private nanny, a private tutor, and in a childcare setting.

What is your favorite children’s book?  What makes it most appealing to you?
I actually do not have one, favorite childhood book.  I was that child who loved any book she could get her hands on.  Some of my favorites are Put Me In The Zoo and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.  Once I got a little older and started reading chapter books, I fell in love with The Giver.  I enjoy various books so much because of my imaginative nature!

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?  Why?
I would probably be yellow.  Although yellow is not my favorite color, I try to be a bright and positive light in the lives of others, so yellow would be fitting.

What actress would play you in a movie about your life?
I would probably pick Jada Pinkett Smith because she is petite, yet strong and feisty!

How do you spend your free time?  Any hobbies?  What are they?
Whenever I do get free time, I find myself doing various things.  I enjoy: bargain shopping, reading, movies, fishing, music, sewing, singing, dancing, shopping, spending time with my family, and eating out.  Did I say shopping?!
