Built Environment Description #2: Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party

Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party is a magical place in the borough of Candler Park, Atlanta where introverts and extroverts alike can go and have a cup of tea (or coffee) and a delectable hors d’oeuvre while they peruse the endless bookshelves of goodness. Once you enter, you’ll see a glass display where they have many different types of treats for you to try. Higher up on the wall opposite the glass display case of treats, there is a menu listing all of the different types of coffee and tea available for your tastebuds to purchase and try. After we entered this dreamy place and told them we were there for our High Tea reservation (which can be made on their website www.drbombays.com), we were warmly greeted and escorted to our quaint little table where our waitress, Rachel, proceeded to set up for our mini tea party.

A delicious pot of tea with subtle hints of cherry (my favorite) and a three-tiered cake display of various different delectables awaited us.

My favorite of all the treats (which included scones, quiches, brownies, cupcakes, and more) was the blueberry scone. It crumbled in my mouth and was a perfect pairing with my cherry tea. During our tea party, my boyfriend and I perused (and smelled) the bookshelves for goodies to take home with us.

My eyes locked with Gone With The Wind which has always been a favorite of mine.

I smelled the pages (all true bibliophiles do) and it smelled of coffee beans and vintage newspaper clippings. Also, it was only $1! I had to have it and asked Rachel if she could add the book to our tab. She proceeded to do so and left us to enjoy the remainder of our pot of tea. We did so, asked for a to-go box for the rest of our delectables, and left with a pep in our step.

Dr. Bombay’s comes highly recommended for the avid bookie, scholar, and/or coffee/tea connoisseur.
