Dolores Perin, Ph. D.
Dolores Perin, Ph.D. is Professor Emerita of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research interests center on the literacy skills of individuals with reading and writing difficulties. Dr. Perin edited the Wiley Handbook of Adult Literacy and has published her research in numerous journals. For 25 years she directed the Reading Specialist M.A. Program at Teachers College, where she taught graduate courses on adult literacy and developmental education, and reading and writing intervention and assessment methods. For 12 years before joining the faculty at Teachers College, she was a PI and project director at the Center for Advanced Study in Education at the City University of New York Graduate Center. She currently offers two professional development courses each year, “Teaching for Writing Improvement,” and “Teaching Reading to Struggling Students,” through Continuing Professional Studies at Teachers College. Dr. Perin is a state-licensed psychologist experienced in working with individuals with learning difficulties that affect literacy development.
