It is with great sadness that we share with the community that Jennifer Jenkins, (A.A. 1974, DeKalb College[now Perimeter College] and B.F.A. 1976, UGA) passed away this week after fighting a rare form of cancer for the past seven years. Jennifer was the Fine Arts Production Manager for 38 years at Perimeter College until her retirement in December, and a powerful presence in the professional Atlanta Theatre community. She touched thousands of people in her life, and she was always an advocate for Atlanta theatre. We know many people have amazing stories of how she influenced them, and we hope to share those stories, so please consider writing them down or recording them for a future project. Join the PC Fine Arts Department mailing list below for further info and updates.

She did not want a funeral, but rather a “Celebration of Life” memorial service where friends could share their love and appreciation for Jen and enjoy a great show as well. She was quite specific that this event happens when the concern for Covid has passed and everyone can share in a joyous celebration together. We now realize that time is far in the future, but we can celebrate Jen during the safest time we’ve known in three years. July 31, 2022 is our confirmed Celebration of Life date. Please RSVP for in-person attendance. Masks are optional but encouraged. Please get vaccinated and boosted.

  1. Jennifer saw the details! When we worked together on one Commencement event or another, she knew how to manage the performances, the practices, and the polish. I trusted her instincts and observations. Her firm manner and kind heart mixed well to create a cooly classy and admirable human being. I will miss her.

  2. I loved when Jennifer would find a way to laugh, when I would be joking around an she would be so serious about what we were doing.❤️

  3. Always the authentic artist, Jennifer found ways to take every event or performance to the next level. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her! She was also sure to always pass along praise and accolades to others. She will be missed, but not forgotten!

  4. I never saw her without a smile on her face. I would never have known she was dealing with an extended illness. She will be greatly missed.

  5. Let Evening Come
    -Jane Kenyon

    Let the light of late afternoon
    shine through chinks in the barn, moving
    up the bales as the sun moves down.

    Let the cricket take up chafing
    as a woman takes up her needles
    and her yarn. Let evening come.

    Let dew collect on the hoe abandoned
    in long grass. Let the stars appear
    and the moon disclose her silver horn.

    Let the fox go back to its sandy den.
    Let the wind die down. Let the shed
    go black inside. Let evening come.

    To the bottle in the ditch, to the scoop
    in the oats, to air in the lung
    let evening come.

    Let it come, as it will, and don’t
    be afraid. God does not leave us
    comfortless, so let evening come.

    Rest in Peace, Jenn.

  6. A Prayer for Protection for Jennifer
    The light of God surrounds you;
    The love of God enfolds you;
    The power of God protects you;
    The presence of God watches over you;
    Wherever you are, God is!

    1. Beautifully spoken and written, Thank you, Sarah and Jack.
      And thank you to Jennifer, and all alongside her, who do their best to produce and protect art, and in doing so promote and create a better world for all.

  7. I have known Jennifer since 1994 while working at Dekalb college perimeter college and now Georgia State University. She was well loved and well known throughout

  8. Well, I was planning to post a picture of Mike and I at The Shakespeare Tavern last night, honoring Jen. But I guess this site won’t allow it. We’ve been wondering who will inherit the CAPLAY license plate.

  9. I have known her since Georgia Perimeter College 2001 till now. She was very helpful for setting me an interpreter. Lucky, she knew some signs to be able to communicate with me. She was very comfort to chat in signs with me. Sometime if interpreter late for meetings, she was willing to try to interpreter. I was amazed that she was willing to interpret without fear and very helpful. Without her, I would not stay to any events she managed. I will miss her so much. She was patient and kind, also great staff here on campus.
