STEP Solidarity Statement

Diversity and Inclusion within organizations refers to the idea that the unique and diverse characteristics of individuals in a given setting will be welcomed and respected, thereby creating a safe climate for all parties involved. Georgia State University prides itself on the diversity of its student population, however many of the resources available are not distributed equally amongst its demographics. The Student Training Equity Project (STEP) here at Georgia State University aims to bridge the divide, offering students of color resources to learn about pursuing graduate education in psychology, and the opportunity to advance their careers by helping them obtain and sustain undergraduate research positions at GSU. We aspire to create a safe space for all minority groups in order to facilitate cultural growth within the field of Psychology. In light of the current racial climate in this country, we also want to pledge our solidarity with racial justice movements, specifically for Black communities, and we affirm our intention to empower all who cross paths with the STEP project.
