Hardwick, Jennifer. “A SAFE SPACE FOR DANGEROUS IDEAS; A DANGEROUS SPACE FOR SAFE THINKING.” Digital Pedagogy Lab. N.p., 13 Aug. 2014.  Web.

In this blog post, a teacher explains how classrooms should have safer spaces for when students want to talk about ‘dangerous ideas’. She goes on to explain how some topics can lead to trigger moments in the classrooms yet they can be fixed. The author claims that teachers have no training in these moments. However, she explains that one way for environments like this to get better is by having more online and blended environments. In an online environment students can control these trigger moments by closing the computer when they want to. This helps with students who do not want to have trigger moments.

The reason that I chose this article is because it explains a way that digital space (technology in this sense) can be used in a certain situation. The only flaw that I would claim this article has is that it could use a little more information on how the technology could be used. However this article will be useful when it comes to understanding how the internet is useful at times when people do not want certain situations to happen.

Tucker, Catlin. “The Techy Teacher / Creating a Safe Digital Space.” N.p., Oct.

Web.

In this article, the author talks about how teachers should be able to support students mentally and their well-beings in their online spaces. She explains that many students use the internet now a days so she wants to create a safe space for students. At the beginning of each school year she does an experiment to see what students feels are the do’s and don’t’s on different types of communication. After this, she gives her students an activity online and one face-to-face to show students when to use certain ways of communication. At the end she explains that all ways of communication are helpful in the classrooms.

I believe that this source is useful because it explains how all different types of spaces, including the internet, is useful in a classroom setting. This source is like the safe space article because it explains how an online community can be a safe space sometimes.

Smith, Chris. “The Netflix Effect: How Binge Watching Is Changing Television.”

N.p., 16 Jan. 2014. Web.

With the Netflix Effect, many people are able to binge watch many of their favorite shows. The article explains how Netflix effects the entertainment of the show. It claims that with Netflix people can just watch a whole season in a day and then have to wait a whole year for the next season. It can put us in an emotional roller-coaster because we do not want to stop watching at that moment.  However, with regular tv a 12 week span gets us closer to the next year. It also keeps the suspense longer in the show as the fans have to wait a week.

I believe that this source is useful because it shows that people have their own space through entertainment. People can just binge watch shows and not have a care in the world for 12 hours. However it can lead us to be brain dead for while which would affect us in the future.

Abrar, Peerzada. “Fear of Facebook Colonising Digital Space Looms over IT

Capital.” N.p., 30 Dec. 2015. Web.

This article explains how Facebook is ‘colonizing’ other people’s digital space. Apparently in India, Facebook owns an internet service company called Free Basics. Whenever the developers of the company wants to innovate the technology, they can not do so without permission form Facebook. Developers are upset when Facebook will not allow things like voice call and video call which competitors already have. Many start up entrepreneurs are also mad as they are block by corporates like Twitter and Medium.

This article can be useful because it shows that other people can control other’s digital space. This tends to make people frustrated and to not be able to be their own leader as they always have to do what the larger company says. From this,I understand that people need a chance to be their own person and to be able to show their abilities. I do not believe that this article has flaws.
