What is a Community Council?
At Georgia State each residence hall has student representatives who support the residents in their respective residence hall. Collectively, these representatives are know as the Community Council for their residence hall. From throwing destress events before finals to presenting some of the best holiday celebrations in residential life.
Each council plays an essential role in creating an inclusive environment where students are not feeling pressured to fit in, but instead feel like they belong. Community Council members at each residence hall are at the forefront of making Georgia State University Housing a memorable experience for students living on campus.
Different Positions on a Community Council
Each Community Council has the following representatives on its board:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Programming Chair
- Public Relations Chair
- Inclusion Chair
- Sustainability Chair
Benefits of Members
Students who serve as Community Council members are exposed to a multitude of leadership and professional development opportunities including the following:

Gaining real world event planning/ programming experience

Exposure to professional development through national, regional, and state conferences

Networking opportunities with other students living on campus, Student Leaders in University Housing, as well as Faculty & Staff
- Discovering and developing new skills that will have members career ready after graduation

Acting as the voice of a large student population
Responsibilities of Members
As part of Community Council members will have several responsibilities which include:

Coordinating events/programs that enhance the life of residents

Addressing the needs and interest of their respective housing community

Developing and implementing activities that are educational, socially aware, and interesting to residents
- Serving on an RHA Executive Committee

Requirements To Be Involved In RHA:

Be a residential student of Georgia State University Housing.

If applying to be a Community Council member or to be an RHA Representative for General Assembly you must reside in the Residential Community you are plan to represent.

Have a(n) interest/desire in developing community relations within your Residential Community.

Be available in the evening for meetings and events/programs.
