Many law schools will require or allow students to submit a resume detailing work and educational experience. While exact recommendations vary by each individual, there are some common rules that should be followed.

  1. 1 page. Maximum. It’s not your life story – keep it relevant and recent.
  2. Unlike Legally Blonde, don’t print on pink paper and include perfume. Use a neutral font, keep things simple and elegant.
  3. Don’t write long paragraphs, include at most a sentence or a couple of bullet points detailing your experience.
  4. Pay attention to details! If you pick a style (periods at the end of a sentence or not) stick to it the whole way. If your style gets sloppy or inconsistent, people will assume you are, too.
  5. Triple check for errors and typos. Have someone else look too.
