Special Maymester Course Offering: POLS 3140 (Judicial Process) as “Domestic Field School”

For the third year in a row, Dr. Susanne Schorpp will be offering her highly popular “domestic field school” version of POLS 3140 (Judicial Process) during Maymester. Here is how Professor Schorpp describes the course:

“The course is conducted partly in the field: You will learn the rules of evidence by observing criminal and civil trial proceedings in the Fulton County courts. Instead of trusting textbooks, you will see the difference between trial and appellate proceedings by listening to oral arguments in the 11th U.S. Court of Appeals.

We will talk to prosecutors and defense attorneys, interest groups, and members of the Georgia Bar Association to understand the criminal justice system, to evaluate the judiciary as a forum of settling disputes, and to learn about political litigation.

The class will alternate between days in the field and in the classroom to provide you with  the necessary theoretical background and the practical knowledge gained in the field.”

The class limited to 15 students and registration begins Feb 27.
