Thursday 11/3, Panel Discussion and Film Screening: “From Slave to Criminal in One Amendment”

The Zoukis Research Collaborative in the Department of Political Science at Georgia State University and the Multicultural Center at Georgia State are hosting a special documentary screening and an expert panel next Thursday (11/3/2016) from 5pm-8:30 in Urban Life 220.

The panel is titled “From Slave to Criminal in One Amendment” and will focus on racial inequality and criminal justice reforms. There will be four speakers for the event including Wendell Willard (GA House Rep. District 51 – R and Chairman of the Judiciary Committee), Park Cannon (GA House Rep. District 58 – D), Kenya Johnson (Sr. ADA for Fulton County and Community Prosecutor), and Mark Loudon-Brown (Attorney for the Southern Center for Human Rights).  Dr. Lakeyta Bonnette has graciously offered to moderate the panel. The panel will be followed by a screening of the new Netflix documentary by Ava Duverney titled “The 13th”, which tracks the development of the prison system in America. Several student organizations including GSA, Pi Sigma, and Young Democrats will be providing free pizza and drinks for attendees during the documentary screening!
