Many respected news sources and opinion leaders claim that law school is often a bad financial investment. This is something every pre-law student should research and consider carefully before deciding to go to law school. At some point, we will post a guide to this site for helping you to decide if law school is a good financial investment for you, but, in the meantime, we will post noteworthy articles as news items. Here are two articles to get you started:
- A New York Times article from June 17, 2016 entitled “An Expensive Law Degree, and No Place to Use It.” This is an example of the potential financial downsides of going to law school, especially if it is an expensive law school.
- A New York Times article from June 21, 2016 entitled “Law School a Solid Investment, Despite Pay Discrepancies.” Among other things, this article cites a peer-reviewed academic journal article that marshals data demonstrating an apparent significant average return on investment for even those whose relative earnings are as low as the 25th percentile.
It is also important to consider that the potential financial risk of going to law school is considerably lower if you decide to go to law school at one of the two state schools here in Georgia. Georgia State University College of Law and University of Georgia Law are consistently rated by National Jurist as among the top 20 best value law schools. According to the rankings just published in the Fall 2016 issue of National Jurist’s Pre-Law magazine, GSU is the fourth best value law school in the country and Georgia is the tenth best.
