The pond at the center of Historic Fourth Ward Park, although very beautiful, isn’t just for looks. The pond’s main function is to serve as a detainment center for flood water, and it does it’s job very well. Before the park was built, the area was known for flooding every time it started raining heavily. Due to the park’s bowl shape and multiple water entrances, water naturally flows directly to the pond, where it can then flow outward of the park more naturally.
