Adding pictures to go a long with our writing can be fun, but we must make sure that credit is given. To ensure that credit is properly given the image must be properly labeled. Here are a couple of useful tips:
How to label & cite an image:
- First, make sure that the image being used goes along with the written work.
- Also always use the original image, do not try alter it.
- The description is usually placed right below the image. The description will start off with the abbreviation for figure (Fig.) and be followed with the appropriated arabic numeral.
- The label and number of the image has to be placed where it is mentioned in the text, and also by the image.
- Labeling information: “Artist’s last name, first name. Title of Work. Date or N.d. if no date. Name of institution that
houses the work or name of private collection. City where institution or collection is located if
available. Name of Database. Web. Date of access in the form of day month year. “ - The image does not have to be mentioned in the works cited page if everything is included in the description. This means the source has to be mention in the description.
