1970’s

1970’s Cultural Issues That Brandished Fashion Advertising

If there was a decade that had the most political issues it would be the 1970’s, due to the simple fact that a lot of these conflicts had created a national movement that included people of all ages old and young.  Many media platforms like the news, radio, and television helped to jump-start these movements that would be advertised for the world to see.  The Vietnam War is an unforgettable historical event that pushed many individuals to express what needed to change in the world.  You had the Anti-war movement, social awareness, and gender equality movement that emerged purposely to begin a conversation about many things they saw wrong in their community or society.  At this point in time, the fashion sense of the people that involved themselves in these issues showed where their opinion stood on certain issues.  For instance, you had the hippies who resulted from the peace movement dressed freely and involved a lot of floral, head-wear, and long hair.  Another group that was prominent during this decade was the Black Panthers an organization that was meant to protect the community from social injustices such as police brutality and was not afraid to address the issues that their community faced with powerful words and actions.

All things considered, the 70’s was definitely a time where people used their voices to address many things that they knew needed to change.  This decade not only served as the era that many cultural and societal topics were introduced but as an era that conversations that were being had.  Some will say that fashion definitely played a key role in these movements and why they got so far but it was mainly the people on the front line who made it their #1 priority to create change.
