Academic Blogs Analysis

Of all the academic blogs researched during the day. here are some characteristics that all of them seem to posses:

  • All of the blogs seem to be clean and easily readable. There are no outstanding and distracting pictures that eat away at the attention. The focus is on more of the content than the pictures. This si not saying that the pictures don’t add detail but it is just to show that the content is the main focus.
  • The paragraphs and stories in which the author is writing about is in easy to swallow doses. The paragraphs are not intimidating but cut up into small paragraphs so that it feels quick and easy to read. It makes you feel as if there is not as much content as there really is.
  • For a few of them, they contain ads that appeal to the subject in which the writer is talking about. For instance the Mind Hacks blog, one about mind, psychology, and neuroscience, contains ads involving books about dreams and the mind.
  • There is a particular organization. The blog is updated constantly by either one author or multiple authors. This is what makes a blog, a blog–the updating
  • A blog needs the ability to let the reader leave a comment. No matter if the respondent is a troll or a legitimate reader, they have the freedom to do so. The reader has the ability to join the discussion that the author brings up.
  • lists are very much a convention of the academic blog. There are images, sources, links, outside views, and evidence in an academic blog.
  • They do not necessarily have to be professional but can be comedic, appealable, or “out there”. It all depends on rhetoric and who the audience is.
