Week 15
The paper embroidery pieces are by Han Cao. The way the flowers are stitched over the figures’ heads, making the people in the photographs faceless, and anonymous, is really interesting to me. The leaves and vines seem to breathe life into the past captured in photo. The third embroidery piece is also hers, although it’s not really connected to the other two, but I just thought the colors were fun. It makes me want to hand paint fabric.
I’m loving the quilt-like spherical structure. The patterns in the piecing remind me of M.C. Escher’ work. Staircases leading to dead ends in all kinds of directions, surreal 3D spaces.
