After looking through the Slave Narrative Database:

  1. Please select a relatively unknown slave narrative.
  2. Locate the correct discussion board for your class (below).
  3. Write at least 100 words as a “comment,” giving the name of slave narrative, a short summary of the narrative, and why it is interesting to you.

Please complete this discussion board assignment before class on Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

Homework for Tuesday, February 1

B”H

A lot of you haven’t finished the Olaudah Equiano reading, viewed the presentation (which is best viewed full screen), or finished the quiz.  I expect you to have these done by Tuesday . . . in addition to accessing the Slave Narratives database to identify a slave narrative you would like to focus upon for your research project for the next month.  Avoid “famous”or well-known narratives.

Enter your choice in Discussion Board on Dr. K’s Blog by Tuesday, February 1st.

Thursday’s Class: Meet in Second Life

B”H

I am still unable to speak, and my doctor won’t let me come to campus . . . so, I am doing my best by meeting you in Second Life so that I can be there “virtually.”

Please meet in-world at your regular class time.  Either join us from your own computer, or come to the lab.  I will be taking roll.

We will be discussing The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano.  I have made a Prezi presentation for you in order to prepare you for the discussion.

You will find it at:  http://prezi.com/sag-xdzmc4j4/olaudah-equiano/

Go here to prepare for your quiz: http://reviewgamezone.com/game.php?id=5304&button=Find

Choose one of the games (I did the space one, it was fun!)

GO TO THE WISE LAB FOR CLASS!!!

B”H

Please meet Dr. Flowers and/or the lab staff at the WISE Lab in Kresge Hall for class today.  They will help you with your Avatar and InSite registration and get you all set up.

Thursday we will meet “in world” (Second Life) for class where I will attempt to text my lecture and we will have a nice discussion.

Dr. K is sick . . . but don’t miss class!

B”H

Remember the first day of class when I told you I was sick?  Well, that was Thursday.  On Thursday afternoon, I lost my voice.

I spent the weekend gargling warm salt water, remaining silent (did I have a choice?), and trying to get as much rest as possible.

It didn’t work.  On Monday I went to my doctor who said, “YOU MUST NOT SPEAK FOR THREE DAYS!!”  Then he handed me a note that said I had to stay out of work for five days and told me I was probably contagious with whatever it is that I have.  At this point, try as I might, I can’t make a peep.  My voice-box just isn’t working.

So, I contacted my colleagues, and Dr. Flowers was kind enough to say she would fill in for a few of my classes.  I am working on what else I should do so that we don’t miss time.  Please go to class unless I write you an e-mail telling you that the class is canceled and giving you an alternative assignment.

I’m so sorry this has happened–especially so early in the semester.

Creating a Second Life Avatar
