Please make sure you have purchased an InSite access code for my class at the CAU bookstore, and that you have enrolled on the InSite website by the end of the week

We will be using InSite exclusively to turn in your work for the rest of the semester.  It is REQUIRED.

Here are the directions for doing that, from Ande, the Technical director at InSite, who has graciously agreed to assist us . . . Continue reading

Thursday Civ Session

B”H

I realize that your paper for CIV V in Ms. Underwood’s class is due on Friday, so my Thursday Civ session might be a little late, but please make sure you go anyways.  At that time, Dr. Flowers also wants to help you understand the new features in LIVE–including (are you paying attention) MS Office!!! Yes, that’s right, you have access to MS Office–Word, Excel, PowerPoint–all just for being a student at CAU!!

(And YES, Mac Users, it is completely compatible with your system!)

Be there Thursday!!  Lower Level Kresge Hall Computer Lab.

IMPORTANT!! Convocation Date Change

B”H

Dear Students,

The date of the convocation has been changed.  This is last minute (to say the least), so please be advised that the Convocation will NOT take place on Tuesday.

Because I had cancelled class for Convocation, and because I don’t want to reschedule when many of you may not have gotten the message, I will be considering this time as a time for conferences with me.  If you need extra help, or you are confused about something in the class, I will be in my office or in the Lower Level of Kresge in the Computer Lab to assist you.

Here is the note I recieved just a few moments ago from Dr. Silver:

Date Corrections

Good morning Colleagues,

I have been informed  that Fall Convocation will not be held on Tuesday, September 21. We will advise you of the new date as soon as that information is available.
Take care and peace be with you.

Pretest and WISE Reception Info

B”H

I am hoping that all of you have access to your e-mail and that you check it, but I also know that a lot of you DON’T check regularly (you are naughty, naughty students!)

If you haven’t checked your e-mail, you are missing this IMPORTANT announcement from Dr. Flowers about the WISE Pre-Test and Reception.

Some important aspects of the following message are these:  the pretest is worth one extra-credit quiz grade, and you need to watch a video on-line before the test in order to better answer the question.

Here is the message in its entirety: Continue reading

Engrade and Gmail for WISE English

B”H

I was planning great things for InSite this semester.  WISE adopted InSite this year so that we could integrate your book, remediation in certain areas of English, and paper grading all in one place.

Unfortunately, according to the InSite representative I spoke to, I can only accept assignments for papers on InSite.  The rest of the assignments I have scheduled for this class have to be submitted elsewhere.

Also, I cannot keep track of the grades for all my assignments on InSite.  I can only put in the grades for your papers.

So, in addition to using InSite, I will be using Engrade this semester in order to keep track of your grades and attendance,  and a  Gmail account for each class to use turning in any assignment that cannot be submitted to InSite (i.e. all your quizzes, discussion board comments, and graphics files).

I will be handing out the Engrade sign up information in class on Tuesday.  The Gmail account for each class is as follows:

  • 9:25–turninmypaper9 at gmail dot com.
  • 12:15–turninmypaper12 at gmail dot com.
  • 1:40–turninmypaper1 at gmail dot com.

Welcome to English 105WS!!

I would like to take a moment to welcome you to CAU’s WISE program, and to help you become familiar with some of the technology we will be using this semester.

First, and foremost, you should become very familiar with WordPress.  WordPress is the blogging site we use to create our e-portfolios for the WISE program.  This is one example of what you can do with the blog.  You can follow the tabs above to find out more about me or to find out more information about class.

If you have facebook, you can friend my CAU Facebook account:  Michelle Kassorla

If you use Twitter, take a moment to sign up for my CAU Twitter account: DrKassorla

You can also subscribe to this blog for updates of the class.

I also have provided links to some interesting educational technology in the right-hand column of this blog.  I will update as I become aware of more programs.

I look forward to spending the semester with you, and I trust I will learn as much from you as you learn from me.

WISE Lab Hours

B”H

The WISE lab is yours to use to get your work done, and as the year draws to a close, the labs on campus are very busy.  Remember that your home-away-from-home in Kresgie is open for your use!!

There are four sophomores who have become experts in the most challenging features of the WISE curriculum, and they get paid help you understand and succeed with the difficult technical questions you might have (no, they won’t help you write your paper!  There are other labs for that!!).

Their names are Durrell Davis, Ronald Jackson, Alexis Jones, and Jonathan Lutu. They are in the WISE lab between 2:00 and 5:00 Monday through Friday.

You can also e-mail them or leave a message at the WISE front desk for one of them to contact you to set up an appointment for help.

Whatever you do, don’t let their expertise—or your tuition money—go to waste by not doing something as simple as this to help yourself.
