1. (Question 2) The designs of the highways, streets, sidewalks, and crosswalks all have a meaning behind them. This passage reveals the secrets that these places are constructed to keep people of the lower class, mainly the poor and the black, out of areas of predominantly white neighborhoods. No matter how many decades have passed, people are subconsciously discriminating those who are different from them and are less fortunate than they are. However, we have failed to even notice the smallest details such as the city’s structure.
2. (Question 3) Schindler mentions that the “architectural regulation… is unseen,” which is very true because citizens, especially younger generations do not realize that the government is controlling how everything is built. It is sure to believe that most adults do not see what has been created and how society has now been shaped by the hands of the government.
3. (Question 4) It is unbelievable to think that the government is doing every possible thing to isolate the homeless from the wealthy. As Schindler says, some parks now have benches with separate seats with armrests. She is very direct with sending out the message that the reason for the architectures are through discrimination.
4. (Question 12) Schindler clearly states that the major reason why “wealthy white residents” voted public transportation out of their area is because they do not want poor people and the colored to be in their neighborhoods. This will decrease the crime rate, have an overall safe community, and increase the economy’s wealth.
