From wars, to riots, and leading the world’s largest civil rights reform, Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn District disguises its environmental disparity by acknowledging the change in its economic development. Being cognizant of the historical content of an environment allows for the current issue to be diagnosed at the roots enabling an intellectual perspective for exploring the philosophical background of the issue. A historical perspective of a built environment is needed in order to understand the origins of contemporary social, political, and environmental crisis. Furthermore a historical perspective enables the viewer with insight, by allowing them to analyze and get a better interpretation of what and why their economy is undergoing environmental issues.  Being cognizant of the historical content behinds Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn District acknowledges the viewer of current issues it’s enduring such as the increased poverty rate, architectural exclusion, and gender inequality. The rhetoric of the Sweet Atlanta’s Auburn district comes from “within”. A “within” that directly lies well in the mainstream of ancient souvenirs which has evolved over the course of 20 years alluring tourist and other travelers.

Upon exploring the interior designs of the National historic site of  M.L.K., in the Sweet Auburn District, I acknowledge that the little children who were there on a field trip were not as interested nor intrigued, and only perceived these artifacts as pieces of history. The significant but personal effect that differentiated various people as  they entered the facility were distinguished by their race. For whites this national historic site created a feeling of sympathy and thankfulness while simultaneously creating a feeling of guilt and courage for blacks. I was implying that people cannot apprehend the rhetoric of a built environment unless they are somewhat cognizant of its history.Becoming more cognizant of an environments history reinforces the five senses of a qualitative community. The first sense of possessing a civilized community is about having the opportunity to express yourself through both natural and built landscapes so that you could feel cherished and comfort. Secondly historical preservation allows for communities to signify its attributions, differentiating them from other built environments. Historical knowledge of built environments could increase the adaptability and accommodation effort in a society as a whole. Cultural and historic resources reflects on the physical features allowing you to see the historical evolution. Knowing the previous history of Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn District presents you with entitlement or a sense of ownership so that you could have a better connection with your surroundings. Establishing a historical perspective allows you to cope and intertwine with responsibilities or obligations you’re enforcing.

After longhours of analyzing and observing the exterior designs of the sweet auburn district I acknowledge that the vast majority of buildings in Atlanta (including Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn District itself)  that was architecturally designed have gained its significance through local history itself. The external appearance of buildings in the Sweet Auburn District embodies the discriminatory rule that governs the relation of individuals to each other and their society just as prejudice laws do. This preservation district that surrounds the national historic site consist of two halves; the eastern half of the district which is mostly residential and the western half which is primarily commercial. Most buildings in this  Auburn Ave district are privately owned and accepts visitors daily  from the hours of 9 to 5. “Concentrated along a short mile and a half of Auburn Avenue, the Sweet Auburn Historic District reflects the history, heritage and achievements of Atlanta’s African Americans. The name Sweet Auburn was coined by John Wesley Dobbs, referring to the “richest Negro street in the world. ” I would highly recommend that everyone that read this article to take a friend or relative visit this Sweet Auburn district and absorb the history that natures throws at you, I promise you’ll be enlightened.

I think that most communities (Especially the Atlanta) community are oblivious to the importance and the impact that commodity, fetishism, and the cultural condition of the spectacle has on a community. The “Spectacle is used to comment on society’s reliance on consumption through image promotion; therefore, in a society of the spectacle, individuals understand themselves by means of mass media”.  In my previous studies I conducted that images produces feelings that are acceptable to human cerebrum so they could get better understanding. I also found that images create a sense of urgency that humans crave which consequently leads a form of capitalism.  Capitalism is produced from images because it divides things into different characteristics in which they are perceived. Historic Resources, preservation, and Capitalism are key components of vital success when alluring tourism. Historic preservation promotes positive advantages allowing for the community to become more globalized while also depriving the community of its cultural mis-chiefs that society restricts on them. Adopting a more globalized community grants them the opportunity to identify and recognize their distinct characteristics distinguishing them from other local environments.

I would agree to the fact that not only Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn District but Atlanta as a whole failed with historic preservation. By allowing for ancient landmarks and monuments to be acknowledged and projected would increase the compassion for more holistic landscapes.  Producing more holistic landscapes (museums, green spaces, historical contents and etc.) accumulated with its subjective spaces plays a vital role in developing academic achievement and is most oblivious when constructing. I  think that acknowledging significant monuments and landmarks has a direct relationship on students intellectual ability which can strongly influence a students initial and longstanding experience that promotes a sense of belonging to that learning community. Increasing the students ability to adapt and become more influenced with a specific environment decreases the amount of attentional fatigue a person could have. Decreasing attentional fatigue enables a student to become more cognizant of his/her surroundings.

Have you ever heard of the phase “History Repeats Itself?” Atlanta’s future solely depends upon its history or the significance of its sites. Historic cultivation sets future expectations of an built environment and how its suppose to support and encourage the sustainable lifestyles through various terms which could be educational, well being, or physically improved. On the social behalf of sustainability the historic preservation of an built environment can motivate or encourage people to strive for a more healthier lifestyle. The historic cultivation is an important factor that highly contribute to the environment because not only can it change our perspective on that particular environment but it might affect the way people interact within that environment. Utilizing historic cultivation is key to economic and environmental growth and can decrease the amount of economic and political issue in an economy. Secure Attachment, Higher levels of cognitive confidence, being socially construed, and showing adequate levels of conformity are just some of the many benefits utilizing historic cultivation will impose on society.

“Atlanta is undoubtedly the international travel hub of the South and known to undoubtedly act as the world’s hip-hop hub.”  Atlanta’s cultural cues like music for example has played a significant part in alluring tourist and other traveler from all across the globe. The cultural assets of an economy (music, dance, visual arts, morals, values, way of life, and etc.) are inherently influenced and enhanced by the historical context in which they were created and evolved over time. Cultural-general cues gives people from other cultures the ability to feel and relate to other cultures customs accurately. Basic general cues such as tempo, pitch, and loudness enables the listener with recognition of what genre, category or how that artist wants them to feel. Certain music can specifically induce an intense arousal response in normal listeners and this response is mediated by brain structures such as the amygdala that have been implicated in encoding key dimensions of many other kinds of emotional stimuli. Culture-specific cues rely on knowledge of the conventions in a particular musical tradition. A particular timbre may be interpreted to reflect one emotion by Northern (New York) listeners and another emotion by Southern (Atlanta) listeners.

When considering the titles for my interior, exterior, and the overall analyses of the built environment project I chose  “Knowledge is key”,”Ignorance is Bliss”, and “knowing the anonymous” because these words all share a powerful pyschologicalmeaning  “what you don’t know can have a significant impact your cognitive ability to adapt and learn from your environment and its surroundings.” Being cognizant of Atalanta’s antiquity possesses a more oriented atmosphere of sustainability and furthermore enlightens the viewer with a sense of conformity. Atlanta has made tremendous improvement when it comes to orchestrating a hectic environment with rapid political and economic development  but yet the environmental inequality is still left unresolved. When perceiving an environment from an historical perspective it grants the reader with cognition, enabling that third eye; allowing them to see things that were once oblivious to them. Historical preservation has often been portrayed as the alternative to economic development. Some believe that we should either have historic preservation or we could have economic growth.  This decision is absolutely an invalid way of attacking the problem. I suggest that acknowledging environmental issues from a historical perspective because this allows people to decompose the problem at the roots creating a more homeostasis environment decreasing political economic and environmental controversy. “Only the foolish community will make the choice between historic preservation and economic development. The wise community will effectively utilize its historic built environment to meet the economic, social and cultural needs of its citizens well into the future.”
