Many Colleges and Universities throughout the United States have established many offices and programs to help with different digital learning initiatives. In this article “Learning In a Digital World” the author Brandon Barrett intends to persuade and inform colleges and universities world wide into disposing their pens, pencils, notepads, and any other forms of physical tools that contributes to their education. At every college/university you attend you will notice that students all around are learning collaboratively whether if its inside the classroom, on the schools’ courtyard, or even in the gym. When these students are not writing down notes or reading from a book the author Brandon thinks that most of their attention is directed elsewhere, and that “elsewhere” Brandon is implying to is the “digital spaces of their smartphones, lab tops, tablets and etc.” Due to the rapid advancement of technology, digital devices and environments has helped contribute to the new and innovative ways of accepting new incoming information. “Technology has shaped the way the world works, and college-aged students seem especially receptive to these changes.” In this part of the short passage Brandon Barrett explains the advantages of creating a Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC’S) and who benefits from it the most. Massive Open Online Courses are learning platforms that provides unlimited participation and interaction via the Web, and through a host of other online tools such as social media. Massive Open Online Courses stills functions as if it were a traditional classroom but it just provide students with a little more opportunity to collaborate effectively among their peers. Brandon Barrett believes that schools across America should switch to the (MOOC) approach because it allows for students to learn core course materials on their own, outside of a classroom, and then to bring these ideas and concepts to a collaborative online classroom environment.
