The eternal flames symbolizes the containing effort to realize Dr. Kings ideals for the “Beloved Community” which requires lasting personal commitment that cannot weaken when faced with obstacles. This “Beloved Community” could be defined by Dr. Kings plan to create a world of justice, peace, and equality for all mankind. The Eternal Flame is located across from the reflection pool  which is the Chapel of All Faiths symbolizing the universal appeal of Dr. King’s work and his message. The arch-covered Freedom Walk on the south side of the Reflecting Pool leads to Freedom Hall on the opposite end just beyond the fountain.
