In a poll done by Niche (2016), 75% of Georgia State students used the word “Diverse” to describe the school in one word or phrase, but only 54% agreed that the dorms’ social atmosphere was great. This implicates a disparity between values at GSU in which diversity is regarded more highly than unity. Diversity should be valued in universities, seeing as contrast of opinion is often more beneficial to problem solving than ability (Krause, S. 2011), but it becomes superficial and pretentious when it lacks the partnership between individuals (Hanson, V. 2016).
It’s not enough to be simply diverse – inclusion and companionship must be prioritized to ensure harmonious relations among students at universities.
