Dormitory? More Like Purgatory – A Built Environment Analysis of GSU’s Piedmont North Dormitory

Considering Georgia State University’s status as one of the most diverse colleges in the United States (Niche 2016), it is expected that the facilities employed by the university are encouraging and welcoming to a wide variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. This is not always the case. The design of GSU’s Piedmont North dormitory appears to promote diversity and unity, but a close examination of the materials and overall layout reveals the perpetuation of a divisive and private culture. For this investigation, I have conducted interviews with two residents of the dorm.
