Agnes Scott College is liberal arts college for women, located in downtown Decatur, Georgia. It was founded in 1889 by a group of Presbyterians, under Minister Frank H. Gaines, and was originally named Decatur Female Seminary. The name changed twice after that. In 1890, it was changed to Agnes Scott Institute, after George Washington Scott’s mother because he was the primary benefactor. Later in 1906, the name was changed to Agnes Scott College.
