Warning!

This particular section will focus on the rhetorical aspects of web design. We will explore and practice principles of effective web design. This course is not a “how-to” type of course that teaches technical skills or a particular software package. Rather, we will focus on how to create and present effective content for this new medium. Having said that, however, an effective web designer needs to understand how things work behind the scenes. Talking about web design without understanding how code works is like talking about standard written English without knowing the English grammar. Therefore, part of this class will be about learning to code while learning effective web design.

This class is very, very, very (did I say “very”?) time consuming. In addition, since this is an online course, it requires a tremendous amount of responsibility and self discipline. If you feel you can’t commit adequate time to it, then you should seriously reconsider your decision to take this course.
