Module 5

Week 5 Module–Developing Other Portfolio Pages

Learning Objectives

  • To apply your coding skills and rhetorical knowledge to real-world web design
  • To conduct an initial rhetorical analysis of your project

Notes on Your Online Portfolio
As you build your online portfolio, ask yourself some questions:

  • What job am I aiming for?
  • What skill set do I possess?
  • What sets me apart from other job candidates?
  • How can my online portfolio best represent my skill set and my uniqueness?
  • Who is my intended audience, and what are their expectations?
  • What content should I include in the portfolio?
  • What tone and voice should I use to represent myself?
  • What’s the best format to present my portfolio content?

Task 1–Develop Other Pages for the Portfolio
It’s hard to say what exactly a portfolio should contain. It depends on the purpose of your portfolio, your intended audience, the conventions and typical expectations in your profession, etc. The following possible components by no means represent an exhaustive list:

  • A well designed homepage that offers a condensed snap shot of your professional credentials while properly emphasizing the most outstanding qualification
  • A resume that takes advantage of the online medium to provide a highlight of your educational, work, and other credentials while offering important details
  • Sample artifacts that best reflect your abilities (each artifact should be accompanied by background info about the design: its purposes, its audience, its context, your design rationale, the techniques involved, the skills and experience you gained, etc.)
  • A bio that allows your readers to know about your professional and personal stories of relevance
  • A professional profile that concisely highlights your professional credentials at a glance
  • Other appropriate content

Task 2–Complete Your Reading Responses for Chapters 9 and 10 of  Web Style Guide

  • Read Web Style Guide Chapters 9 and 10 and complete your reading responses. Please note that you need to complete a separate reading response for each chapter.
  • Post your reading responses to the Reading Response page.
