I believe that our meeting this morning was very constructive. I had a few questions that I wanted to talk about, but once those were out of the way we just had a discussion about technical writing and future pathways within the Technical Writing discipline.

I did learn a few things this morning:

  1. I did pretty well on my annotations and our group did a great job with our pitch presentation
  2. I’m not the worst writer
  3. We still have more work in front of us this semester than behind us
    1. Memorandum of Understanding, Service Learning Project, 2 more sets of annotations, portfolio resume work
  4. I explained to Dr. Wharton my unorthodox approach to my schooling if what classes she might recommend me take. I also asked her whether she knew of any classes on Business Analysis
    1. Some of the courses and disciplines she suggested were:
      1. Digital Publishing
      2. Dr. Hawke’s Class on Multi-Modal Communication
      3. She suggested checking the Robinson college for classes in Business Analysis
        1. Also that through Robinson, I could take Quantitative Statistics
      4. Visual Rhetoric.

Towards the end of the meeting I moved on to the topic of future employment. Whether I should hold myself for just internships that would allow me to continue schooling or start trying to get a job and do more online courses. She mentioned that case with a few people she knew that started later in Tech Writing and were able to get entry level jobs that taught them the necessary skills they needed along the way by nature of the different projects they may work on. Gave me something to think about.

Over all, I enjoyed our meeting and I have been enjoying the class. I’m excited to move further with our service learning project.
