Last week I was able to present my presentation and received some great feedback. Some of the things mentioned I wanted to try and tackle this weekend. One of the critiques was for adding a site map or examples of pages and reorganized pages.  Since I am tackling the content reorganization of the website, I thought I should get started.

The slides that I added tackle the header of the Center for Civic Innovation’s website.  After researching other websites that our client had provided us to use as industry comparisons I noticed that the sites we really liked did not have a Home tab. So I suggest removing the home tab, but keeping similar functionality by clicking the CCI logo, which would then route back to the landing page.

Another part of the reorganization is the removal of the Services tab.  Everything inside that tab could be logically added to another page within the site.  For example,  the Host an Event and Building Services pages will be added to the About page while 1:1 Advising page will be added to the Programs page. This created a more streamlined look to the header and also moved information where it could be more logically and quickly accessed. I also moved Co-Work next to About to improve how easily a casual visitor can access the co-working information.

cci-header will be turned into thiscci-new-header-draft

Another part of the reorganization of content can be seen in the Programs page.  The Programs and Initiatives pages I believe are some of the most important content within the website and are able to differentiate them from other organizations that may be doing something similar. With that being said, they need to streamlined as well so that the important information that is provided is more easily accessed. Below you will see an example of the reorganization.

cci-programs-tabs  Could look like this: cci-programs-tab-draft

Since Events and Programs sends the user to the Events Calendar, it was redundant and could be removed. I also removed the page Social Studies since the program had ended months previous with no indication that it would be continuing in the future. The page Our Space was also moved to the About page since it was providing general knowledge and was not an actual program offered by CCI.

I believe that this reorganization and the continued streamlining of their content combined with the redesign of their current website will get us closer to our goal of creating the feeling a user has in the CCI office with the feeling they have when they are on the CCI website.
