Today I was trying to understand the different personalities of the group and how they communicate with other people. Everyone speaks and interacts in their own way, so I feel understanding a little how each person communicates will helpful as we go on creating this pitch and later the final project.
We’re not entirely sure exactly what we are going to do quite yet, but we did have some good ideas about where/how we can start. One of the big problems I have seen on the CCI website is redundant information that can be consolidated or eliminated all together. Since Rachel discussed with us in our meeting that they would like the site to be a little easier to navigate and use, I think reorganizing some of their different pages as well as eliminating redundant ones will make navigating the site more intuitive. We agreed that we all need to delve back into website with a fine comb and see where we can trim, reorganize or eliminate extra information.
Another aspect is the landing page. It is very dark. On a large monitor, like the ones in class the bottom half of the site is visible. However on laptops and tablets that have smaller screens, the landing page is black. We all agreed that we love the logo and colors in the logo, but that they should find a way to incorporate them into the landing page. The feeling we got from walking around the office last Tuesday is not the same experience we have using their site. An immediate solve for this to make the top black rectangle shorter that would brighten up the page and also bring up the more action oriented tabs at the bottom.
We also thought it would be a good idea to re-work their About page that introduces their team. As we said earlier the experience we had in the office is not the same on this page. Each team member has a paragraph describing their backgrounds and personal info, but there is no standard length for any of them. Plus, there are no pictures. Just text. As we discussed in class today, we need images. We think we should change that page to so that the page is their pictures with their title. Once you click on their name or picture you can see their bio. This would be cleaner but also more engaging. This would also be more user friendly instead of a wall of text. Seeing their faces would give them an opportunity to show the personality they display in the office to everyone who visits the site.
For the email system we decided that we need to look at the newsletter and see just how pertinent all of the information could be. I think that we will see a trend as to what they deem important that may guide us as to what should and shouldn’t be included the newsletter in an effort to trim it. Rachel had mentioned that the information is “necessary” and not all fluff so I think we need to be particular about what we cut and trim.
On the flyer front we decided that a thicker card stock that was similar to club promotion flyer would be a great improvement to their current flyer. Since CCI does so much and it apart of many different events around Atlanta, we believe that they need 3 different types of flyer that can be used for all situations and reach as many audiences. These smaller flyers also will be easier to transport and distribute, but also easier to keep and take home.
We adjourned the meeting by agreeing that we all should research some more now that we have more of a focus on the different aspects and reach out again to each other on Saturday and meet again Tuesday. I do plan on having something ready by Thursday to be a part of the first practice presentations.
