Going Up! – 08.10.15

Three things may strike you as different in today’s work site photo when compared to last week’s: much of the work site is covered with gravel, two large cranes have been added, and cement columns have been added on the right side.

The crane on the left was built on-site late last week and appeared to be the main focus of the construction work during that time.  Watching its assembly held my attention, especially Friday.

Thursday morning, I noticed that there were construction materials in the public parking lot behind our building and wondered whether they were part of the dorm construction or for another purpose.  It didn’t take long to find out.IMG_4831

This is the view from our break room window on the backside of the building.  The dorm construction site is directly across from the front of the building.

Throughout Thursday and Friday, the pieces above were moved to the construction site and assembled into the crane you see in the picture at the top of the post.  It all began with the delivery of the equipment labeled “Precision Stone” in the picture below.  This particular machine is the largest thing we have seen on site.  IMG_4828

One-by-one, the parts that would become the crane were delivered to the work site.IMG_4830IMG_4833

When I left the office Friday afternoon, the crane was not completely assembled.  It was waiting for me when I arrived this morning.  So far, the crane has sat, unused, while other work is completed around it.  The delivery and setting of the concrete columns is ongoing.  In the first photo, you can see three columns near the bottom, right side of the work site.  As of now, more columns are in place and others are waiting on flatbed trucks to be set.  The dorm may finally begin “going up”!
