This is a painting I made with Ink Wash. What I want to express is my current understanding of painting. I have tried painting methods, including Micron Pen, Weasel Hair Brush, and acrylic brush, character structure models, and various different kinds of paper. Painting has always been my favorite work, and it’s something I’ve been working on for the last few years.
This looks so cool!! The pens/materials being well indented (?) in the ground and the person cautiously traversing between the lines and pens makes the audience think about a person’s art journey. Based on the person’s/figure’s body language, we can tell they’re trying to get used to making art; They’re trying to learn how to flow smoothly like the lines you drew around them. This meaning is further amplified by the fact the person is one of those figurines artists tend to buy to help with depicting anatomy. I love what you did here! Your message is very clear, given the prompt at hand
I love your work! The use of the ink wash in this way is masterful.
Very cool! I love how you included all the ways you paint/create art in your art piece.
I love this! I’m always so envious of your work (in a good way), and I love how well you execute everything. I like the detail of the different brushes and pens. I also love how the figure in the middle seems to be unstable in a sense. Good Job!
So this is you–traversing through the land of drawing and painting–not being sure what is going to come crashing through the paper at you.
The rolls of roiling paper that is the subject seems so soft around the edges. I like your process in painting into the negative spaces, darkening them so that the positive space becomes the drawing paper. The paper curves, almost like an obstacle course for the little drawing figure. Here you (the figure) become a drawing tool!
Cast shadows are usually darker the closer they are to the object. You could add drama by using one more layer of wash on the cast shadow closer to your tools, AND add lighter cracks in the pavement/paper the further out you go from the dark cracks. I am wondering if those are lotus leaves pushing up through the paper, with the lotus blooms being the brushes? I love the surreal feeling of the little guy hovering over the drawings, may be wondering if a drawing tool is going to grow out of the ground underneath him? Where his feet are closer to the paper–as they are blocking more of the light, the paper would be slightly darker.
You have a bit of a light wash underneath/behind the figure. Did you consider pulling that value up along the entire back of the paper?
Though the drawing in the background is beautiful, you might want to add a white box behind the comments so that they will show up.
