Recycled Being, 2024
Additive Drawing using Charcoal Pencil, on 24″ x 18″ Drawing Paper
This piece was created using additive drawing techniques with a charcoal pencil, reflecting a recycled being that I fabricated in real life. The meticulous detailing and layering in the drawing process took over 5 hours, resulting in a distinctly three-dimensional appearance that captures the whimsy and vibrancy of its inspiration.
My Recycled being is an animated figurine inspired by a funky Toy Story-like creature. I approached this creation with a focus on creativity and dynamism, aiming to challenge myself while thoroughly enjoying the process.
The top portion of the body features a stone “hat” decorated with sprouting flowers, complemented by black feathers on the right side of the head to introduce contrasting textures. The face of the being is crafted from a plastic spoon, with googly eyes that add a whimsical touch. To unify the design, I incorporated black fuzzy pieces for eyelashes on the left eye, echoing the contrast provided by the feathers on the opposite side of the head and the dark solo cup at the base.
Moving to the body, I utilized a Sprite soda can, wrapped in a cloth scarf, which was particularly enjoyable to portray due to the striking contrast between the metallic can and the soft fabric. The lowest part of the body consists of a plastic, cut up yogurt cup and the top half of a blue solo cup. This added movement and dimension to the composition.
