Tailgating in 1869

Tailgating first started in Greece and rome. Some believe tailgating got its name when Princeton played Rutgers in 1869, and fans were served sandwiches off the wagon, pulled by a horse, whose tail flapped about as they ate. In 1930s, wooden sided station wagons arrived, and their spacious tailgates allowed fans to really put a pre-speard.

Helmet wall

There are more than 760 helmats one from every college fields a football team. Football subdivision, football championship subdivision. Division 2, division 3, and NAIA. Now add the fact that every college team as about 90 players each and that’s about 70000 helmats a year.

USC song girls uniform

In 1967, USC students voted to replace male yell leaders with women, and the soon to be famous USC song girls were born. Originally a team of seven that has grown to 12, the USC song girls boast a playbook of three dozen dance routines, and have performed as far away as Australia and japan

Flying wedge belt

This belt helped players hang onto each other in the flying wedge, in which they formed a V shape a plowed down the field. The flying wedge was banned in 1894 along with similar formations considered dangerous.

Black college football centennial, 1992

In 1892, biddle university beat livingstone college, 4-0 in a match of a football game on a snow convered field in Salisbury, north Carolina, and in so doing inaugurated black college football. One hundred years later biddle, now known as Johnson C. smith, beat livingstone again, 14-6.

The Heisman trophy: at 25 pounds 17 inches long 17.5 high and 10.5 wide, the Heisman trophy is far the worlds biggest trophy, it is how ever one of its most recongnized. In 1935, New York’s Downtown Atletics club chose the sculptor frank Eliscu to create a bronze figure to honor the years best player. Eliscu chose his close friend and NYU half back Ed Smith as his modol, the club chose to  name it its recently decreased athletic director, famed coach and innovator John Heisman.

College Football National Championship Trophy: An ascending virtual football, the College Football National Championship Trophy’s handcrafted gold brackets surround a hardened steel cone core. It is designed to be raised in celebration of the highest level of achievement in college football.

William V Campbell Trophy:  peyton manning and tim tebow built a legacies, ranking them among the greatest college football players in history. They also excelled in the classroom and as community leaders. Their all accomplishments earned them the Campbell trophy. This trophy is only giving at some points when a player breaks a lot of NCAA records in their college football career.

The distinguished American award: from a Pulitzer prize winning poet Archibaid Mcleish to a football player turned war hero Pat tillman, the distinguished American award recipient list reads like whos who of great americans. One  of the NFF’s most prestigious honors, the awards recognizes an outstanding person who has maintained a lifetime interest in football and who has exhibited enviable leadership qualities throughout their lives.

The MacArthur Bowl:  this trophy was named after Douglas Macarthur. He was a special guy. He allied troops in the World War 2, and was an early leader of the national’s football foundation. The macarthur bowl, given since 1959 to years most outstanding college football team, was designed and donated by tiffany & co from suggestions made by gen. MacArthur.
