This was an extremely engaging piece that I had great pleasure of creating. I garnered inspiration from the African sculptures at the High Museum. I ran into the difficulty of making this piece as abstract as possible while not steering too far from my original vision. I am happy to say that this was successful. At first glance you may not know what you are looking at, but this is supposed to be a man’s head with his tongue sticking out. Carving the tongue out of soap was interesting because I have never worked with clay before. It took me 3 tries to get it right. My favorite part was using the soap shavings to add more depth to the clay sculpture.
